Commissioned a Healthwatch survey of the MEAM client group which provided some clear messages/themes from people with lived experience (PWLE) that chimed with 4 other recent pieces of engagement research with PWLE.
We grouped the key messages/themes from PWLE under 3 headings:
1) Accessibility – e.g. access to housing; mental health services/support
2) Type of support needed and valued – e.g. the importance of 1:1 support and a positive relationship with support/ keyworker, the value of peer support; the need for one shared plan with good communication between all services
3) Staff attitude and organisational cultures – e.g. feeling judged, labelled, and stigmatised (self-confidence and self-worth), building on people’s strengths and aspirations
Looked at each of those 17 messages and themes and asked – what work is already going on to address the issue &/or what still needs to be done?
The themes/messages from PWLE and our discussions around them informed the Expression of Interest (EoI) we submitted for the Changing Futures Programme – unfortunately unsuccessful but some good thinking & learning emerged from the process
Group is reflecting on all of above to agree priorities/next steps:
Wherever possible, link this sub-group into existing work
Where ‘new’ work is needed – be clear how it can be properly resourced (including LKC funding for this work-stream)
